Profile of David Hayde
David is a Fellow Chartered Accountant, New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Fellow Chartered Management Accountant, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
David is a New Zealander (with dual British/NZ citizenship) who has 30 years experience in international business including 10 years as a Partner in Management Consulting and Corporate Finance at KPMG in New Zealand.
From a London base, David divides his time between New Zealand and Europe supporting his New Zealand clients with the development/management of their UK/European interests - he is their virtual international Finance Director - there when needed, but not on the fulltime payroll; and working with his New Zealand focused clients.
As well, he holds various directorships in New Zealand, including Carlyle Venture Capital Limited, Motivated Exchange Limited, and Elm Tree Consultants Limited.
David's career/personal highlights include:
- Currently working on contract at the Olympic Development Authority, the organisation responsible for building all infrastructure for the London 2012 Olympics. David has worked on a number of key commercial finance projects in the Olympic Development Authority.
- Over the last 5 years, establishing a private equity consulting firm that has raised around $2m from various investors and has interests in a number of businesses. These businesses are in a range of industries.
- Making a difference at governance and senior management level at the medium sized organisations that are typical users of David's services over the last 10 years.
- The consulting team at KPMG in Auckland at the time of joining it in 1987 consisted of 10 people. David, together with two other partners, built this to a team of 100 by 1997. At that stage it was the biggest in Auckland and had a turnover of $20m. It was sold to the American KPMG partnership in 2000.
- The Auckland and Wellington KPMG partnerships merged their practices on 1 January 1999. As partner in charge in Auckland at the time, David managed the merger process such that no staff left and business continued to develop.
- At the time of leaving KPMG, the Corporate Finance team in Australasia led the rankings for the most number of deals done among merchant banks and corporate finance advisers. The New Zealand team that David was responsible for had a turnover of $10m.
- A consulting role at North Shore City resulted in an early involvement with a project to build a new stadium. David was responsible for many aspects involved with raising $40m to build the facility. An ongoing relationship has since resulted in a number of developmental roles.
- An involvement with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in the early 1990s resulted in being directly involved with new admissions and structural policies being introduced.
- An involvement with the Variety Club - the Children's Charity culminated in being part of a team that raised $1m in 2000 for this charity via the Variety Bash.
