Stadiums and Arenas
An involvement with Stadiums began in 1990 when David was asked by the North Shore City Council in New Zealand to work on a Stadium Master Plan with an architect and engineer. They looked for the best place to build and operate a new regional stadium facility. A 24 hectare site was identified that had all the desired requirements. It was in the middle of an area that was yet to be developed. The Council accepted our recommendations and purchased the site.
Subsequent tasks involved preparing feasibility studies and business plans on what size and type of facility should be developed, where people were going to park, how public transport would work, what sort of commercial opportunities were available, and how it could be funded. Once buy-in from stakeholders was achieved, then funding was obtained and construction started. The facility was opened in March 1997.
As a result of being extensively involved with this project for some 15 years, David has also been part of projects with several other regional New Zealand facilities.
In the UK, David is currently contracted to the London Olympic Delivery Authority, which is responsible for all venues and infrastructure development for the 2012 London Olympics. The projected cost is some £10B. He has undertaken a number of commercial finance projects.
